I wrote this on a paper at the Elections Office on June 7th, taking a little break and getting paid. YAY!
Here I am, at the Elections Office located in Downtown, Toronto. Today is the day to vote! Today, I will possibly do 12 hour shift, up till 11 p.m tonight. Yes, 12 hours, but there are other people who will be working for more than 12 hours. Some will stay till 2-3 a.m to make sure we have everything back, the tabulators, the voting screens, the ballots, etc in place. It will be hectic after 9 p.m; that's when the polls close which means vote ends.
Every AM (Area Manager) and their team will come to the office to return all (hopefully) their items they need for today. Technology polls (where people can vote electronically at their given voting destinations) will come here right away, due to their tabulators having immediate ballot count results whereas paper polls will have to count ballots manually. Paper polls will be arriving possibly 12-12:30 a.m, that's what I've been told. There are 94 polls. NINETY-FOUR! You can see why people would need to stay till 2-3 a.m. Hats off to them, I'm just glad I won't be here, then. I love my sleep!
Updated post:
I've had to stop writing due to having a brief meeting regarding the set up for when the people would come for 9 p.m and onwards.
I made some new friends! We hung out, had Pizza Pizza - I didn't want any, but they made me have a slice. I chose the smallest slice, of course.
I left at around 10:15 p.m. I heard that people had to stay till 3 a.m. Yikes! I felt sorry for them.
Luckily, my station was dealing with tabulators, what I had to do was to check the suitcase, to make sure the items are returned. Each suitcase has its poll number, and the person returning it has to be responsible for it. For instance, if you're responsible for returning the pen and it has your poll number, you signed the sheet saying you have the item and will bring it back, YOU bring it back, not anyone else. You would then sign the sheet saying you returned the item and everything was checked out.
Now, naturally there were some issues, as anticipated. The person responsible did not show up and the item came with the team. A piece was missing. Something was taken out and was not supposed to be taken out, etc. Nothing drastic. All easily solavble. Yes, the people responsible who did not come did come after being called to show up. This is some serious sh*t. That particular station finished processing people at around 1:30 a.m. Not bad at all, but then again, it wasn't hard to process them.
The other station with the paper polls had a lot, a lot, a lot to do. They had to check each envelope, papers, etc. So that took a while.
So, who won? PC! Not surprising though. I won't say anything else about it. Congratulations, PC party.
Let's see what you have to offer us for the next four years.
The parties who did not win, sorry, maybe next time!
